A little over a week ago, or perhaps what feels like an eternity ago, NPR announced the release of over 100 live concert webcasts from the legendary, storied, and iconic DC institution - the 9:30 Club. The announcement was mean to coincide and celebrate the venue's opening on May 31, 1980.
Happy Anniversary 9:30 Club! We happily celebrate the forty years that you have been a part of our community and delighted fans through the decades!
NPR's treasure trove, in particular, chronicles performances from 2005 through 2017, with some peak coverage during the 2006 and 2007 timeframe.
The list of performers that graced its stages contains a staggering depth and breadth of performers. The venue has never limited itself to a single genre and has always embraced all forms of music. Because of this, touring artists are always looking to the venue's calendar for an open date. While the venue has welcomed national touring artists, it is worth noting that local artists have been able to live out their musical dreams by joining the headliners as supporting acts.
The 9:30 Club is a true Washington DC institution - it is our home venue, it belongs to all of us, and we embrace and value it. Lastly, we let our memories to dance in our heads and allow those wonderful times to bring some deep, deep smiles to our faces and hearts.
When the venue does open it's doors to live music again, please visit their history room at the back of the venue where you can walk through history as you look though walls of CD's chronicling their history. While the venue remains closed, please celebrate their rich history here. Until the 9:30 Club reopens its doors to live music, please enjoy the concerts that NPR has graciously provided the community.

We want to note that the 9:30 Club once again embraced the community and welcomed them into their hallowed halls this past weekend during the peaceful demonstrations throughout the city. The club was one of many to provide the community some respite from the weather and provide bathrooms, first aid, hand sanitizers, and charging stations during a long and meaningful day for the city and the nation. What a way to start your 40th year in DC!
We recognize that there are a lot of very deserving people and organizations in need right now. If you do have the means or ability to also include the staff of the I.M.P. family, you can do so by purchasing some of their merchandise here. In particular, I.M.P. has set up a Family Fund to help their out-of-work hourly employees.
