All The People Came Out For Gordon Sterling and the People’s Album Release Party

Gordon Sterling and the People came to Pearl Street Warehouse on September 2, 2022, to speak the truth, their truth, and celebrate the release of their latest album of the same name, Truth.  Adding to the community celebration was the beautiful power of a rare semi-acoustic set with Oh He Dead, who are truly spectacular, and for those who have not heard of Oh He Dead before, they should be on your radar.

Gordon Sterling and the People were founded back in 2020 and may have slipped under the radar to some as we dealt with a crazy period in time.  This period was a double edged sword for the band as they were forming and felt ready to take on the world - but the world would have to wait to hear the People.  This forced time off gave the band time to practice, perform on webcasts and submit an NPR Tiny Desk submission, and write and record Truth.

Although the band is only two years old, Sterling drew from the DMV to assemble six incredibly talented musicians - Cliff Blum (guitar), Natalie Brooke (keys), Scott Clement (bass), David Ray (drums), and recently added vocalist Jenny Langer.  The Pearl Street Warehouse album release party was Jenny Langer's first live performance as a member of the People.

For nearly two hours, Gordon Sterling and the People basked in the glory of a venue filled with fans and relished the opportunity to perform the full breadth of their song catalog in addition to a few celebrated covers.  The merch booth was bustling with activity but there was one thing missing - Sterling told the audience that evening that the album had been released digitally but he did promise that one day a rare vinyl pressing of Truth would be available.  Vinyl pressing aside, Truth is an album that should be listened to, and if it were available on vinyl, we would recommend listening to this album until your diamond needle wore out.

If you missed the show, be sure to go see Gordon Sterling and the People live next time they play out  There is nothing better than a night of soulful and bluesy blissful funk with wailing vocals, fresh guitar licks, and Natalie Brooke's keyboard skills.  We would like to congratulate Gordon Sterling and the People on a wonderful new album, and we collectively look forward to the very best of days being ahead for this incredible band.
