The DMV is in for a special night of fun, funk, dancing, and unbridled energy when Karina Rykman comes to Pearl Street Warehouse on December 10th, 2022. This will be Karina Rykman's first appearance in Washington, DC, fronting her own band.

Who is this Karina Rykman, and why are we so excited to hear her and her band perform at Pearl Street Warehouse? Rykman plays bass, sings, jumps around, and laughs a lot. In doing so, she has garnered the attention of music lovers far and wide and gained an avid listenership. In 2016, Karina joined Marco Benevento's band on bass. With Benevento, she's opened for Vulfpeck, Dispatch, The Claypool Lennon Delirium, Guster, and many more. In the last few months, Karina has been everywhere - on the radio, on stages, on webcasts, and most recently on television with appearances on The Today Show, America's Got Talent and a feature on New York's ABC7. Most recently, Karina sat in with the 8G Band on Late Night with Seth Meyers.

Rykman straddles the worlds of jam rock and indie pop drenched in psychedelia, and her effervescent presence comes to life in a magical musical form. Rykman has performed on stages across the county, including several prestigious appearances supporting Khruangbin at the Capitol Theatre in New York and The Infamous Stringdusters at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado. With the panache to win over any crowd, Karina's show has captured audiences' hearts at major festivals, including Bonnaroo, Peach Music Festival, and Sweetwater 420 Fest.

With only six singles released, Karina has built a reputation as an unmissable live act. Her debut single, "Plants" reached over a million streams, with the other singles not far behind. Best yet, a yet-to-be-released debut studio record looms on the not-to-distant horizon.

We had the opportunity to talk to Karina about her upcoming performance at Pearl Street Warehouse.

Many people are familiar with you as the bassist for Marco Benevento, but you are coming to DC as a solo artist with your own band. Can you tell us a little bit about your band, how you formed, your sound, and how touring with the band has gone.

I’m thrilled to come to DC with my own band for the very first time! Our first song “Plants” came out in June of 2019, and it’s sort’ve been off to the races since then. The band features my NYU pals Adam November on guitar and Chris Corsico on drums - absolute animals on their respective instruments. This year we got to play Bonnaroo and Red Rocks opening for The Infamous Stringdusters - absolute bucket list gigs for me and my band. It’s been a really exciting year, and we’re just getting started. It’s going to be a dance party of epic proportions.

We have seen you perform in DC over the years. Do you have any special memories of DC on or off the stage?

My favorite DC gig memory was opening for the Claypool Lennon Delirium at the 9:30 Club. The band had the big green room, and we had the smaller one - but the minute they walked off stage, they ran into ours. We spun records all night long with those dudes, and it was such a fun night - one I’ll never forget.

For those that have not seen you perform live with your band, what can people expect to see and experience? We know you are excited about your yet-to-be-released debut studio recording, will there be any new songs released this tour and will Pearl Street Warehouse for your Winter Tour closer?

My band is unbridled energy and a power trio that sounds larger than the sum of its parts. I’m planning on debuting a ton of new material all throughout this tour - we’ve been working really hard to dial it all in. Many tunes will appear on my forthcoming record. It’s going to be a dance party with infectious grooves, big improvisational moments, and, of course, bass bombs.

Thank you very much Karina! We really are looking forward to seeing this unbridled dance party at Pearl Street Warehouse on December 10th, 2022.

The only thing that could make this night perfect is a perfectly complimenting opening act. The music deities are shining brightly on DC because the fantastical and funky Natalie Brooke will open up for Karina Rykman.
