The 9:30 Club opened May 31, 1980, on 930 F Street NW.  Despite the venue being officially named "Nightclub 9:30" it is universally known by fans and artists alike as the 9:30 Club.

A lot has changed since then including its location the surrounding the neighborhood, and the city in general. The one thing that does remain constant in Washington DC is the legendary status and clout that the 9:30 Club deservedly earned.

9:30 Club

815 V Street Northwest

Washington, DC 20001

Capacity: 1200

On January 5, 1996, the modern day 9:30 Club opened its doors on 815 V Street in the former WUST Radio Music hall.

A whos-who of artists have graced this venue in its storied 30+ year history including tour kickoff's, album releases, surprise appearances, legendary live album recording and videos, and just about everything in between. This venue is hands down the most storied, celebrated, and frequented venue in the region.

The venue is so beloved that many upcoming acts are told by friends and locals alike "You know you have made in DC [musically] it when you make it to the 9:30 Club." DC Music Review has witnessed artists family members telling this to a musician or two. Other musicians have told DC Music Review "I have been waiting my whole life to have a 9:30 Club cupcake!" The infamous cupcakes are delivered each morning fresh to the venue and are sold to customers but left in each green room as part of the venue welcome to an artist.

The 9:30 Club has been named "Nightclub of the Year" by National Publication Pollstar 11 times and has frequently been the top-selling club in the US, and in 1993 was named Rolling Stones #1 Big Room In America (source). .

In what was once the coat check area on the main level now stands the "9:30 Hall of Records" which tries to catalog in album form every headlining act that passed through its hallowed halls.

If you love music and you live in or travel through Washington DC, you will no doubt spend unforgettable nights of music at the 9:30 Club.

Pre-Show

Less than a block from the 9:30 Club is Witlows DC on the corner of 9th & U Street. Note: If you are vegan, this is an excellent food option only feet away from the venue.

Service Bar is located a very short walk from the venue and is located on 926-928 U St NW and is open until 2AM.  You can find food and drinks at this establishment, and most importantly their late night dining menu is available well beyond when most other kithcens close.

Post-Show

There is no shortage of places to eat and drink after a show at the 9:30 Club.  Simply walk down U Street and stop in at any one of the restaurant and bars that dot the U Street Corridor. Many of the establishments we listed in the pre-show section are also open into the wee hours of the morning.
