Michigan natives Greensky Bluegrass descend upon DC this weekend for a double header in the nation’s capital. First is a stop at the legendary 9:30 Club [SOLD OUT] this Friday, February 2. The band will make their way across town the following night to play their first show at DC’s new gem, The Anthem.
Greensky Bluegrass is Anders Beck (dobro), Michael Arlen Bont (banjo), Dave Bruzza (guitar), Mike Devol (upright bass) and Paul Hoffman (mandolin).
To put it bluntly - this band is on fire. Since 2013, Greensky Bluegrass has pleased DC fans with their unique presentation of progressive bluegrass (sometimes referred to as jamgrass). They are essentially a rock and roll band that plays bluegrass instruments, according to Hoffman. He couldn’t be more on the money. Their live performances feature great original songs that venture into extended exploratory jams. They are also known for playing unexpected covers by artists including Prince, Dire Straits, Bruce Springsteen and Fleetwood Mac. Their show is paired with a phenomenal lighting display by Andrew Lincoln for an extraordinary audio visual experience.
The band’s ascent in DC has been noteworthy. In September 2013, Greensky sold out The Hamilton, an intimate, downtown DC venue. They followed up with their first show at 9:30 Club in February of 2014. In 2015 they played a 9:30 double header, followed by a trio of shows in both 2016 and 2017.
If you missed out on 9:30 Club tickets, be sure to attend Saturday’s show at The Anthem. Talented guitarist Billy Strings will join Greensky for both nights. Don’t miss this incredible band that is well within their prime and making new fans with each and every show.
