"It's been a crazy couple of years, man. And the chops have been thinking, like, what's the thing that keeps us all together, man? It's love, babies. It's love. And we love each and every one of you."

The Judy Chops came to Pearl Street Warehouse on Friday, April 27, to celebrate tens years together as a band and  the release of their latest album, Love is the Answer. This show came less than a week after they won the ROCKN' to LOCKN' contest, where they played a set of entirely new music from that album and picked up a coveted spot playing at Lockn' Festival this summer.

The Judy Chops features William Howard (Electric Guitar, Vocals), Molly Murphy (Hollowbody Guitar, Vocals), Sally Murphy (Banjo), Mike Pressel (Trumpet), Rachel Smith (Baritone Saxophone), Jims Hinkle (Bass), and Jess Bergh (Drums). This crew seamlessly blends a wide variety of genres, from swing, to country, to jazz, to rock, and so much more. All with a collective swagger and breadth of talent that will get you out of your seat.

The Judy Chops wrote their first song, “I Will Never Leave” after meeting while working the Natural Chimneys Campground in Mt Solon, VA

Before playing their new album in full, The Judy Chops took the audience on a tour through their history and catalog, playing everything from the first song they wrote as a band after forming at Natural Chimney's Campground, to a track so new that it did not make this latest album and has yet to be released. This summer they will be playing Red Wing Roots Music Festival at that same campground they worked together some ten years ago.

All of this made for an exciting atmosphere as The Judy Chops began to dig into their new music for a crowded room at Pearl Street Warehouse. "Thank you for supporting live music, and for supporting our dreams, guys. Our dream is to put our music into the world and you're making it possible." They worked their way through the album in order before bringing in some covers to close the night out, with a fitting "Love Shack" encore capping off 25 songs and over two hours of music.

The Judy Chops will be in Charlottsville this Friday for another celebration of their new album  before heading to Sleepy Creek Spring Dig on Saturday. You can find their new album, Love is the Answer, on BandCamp, Spotify, and iTunes,. Their single, "Lay My Love" made it on the March Relix Sampler. And be on the lookout for our full album review by Abbie Ginis next week. For now, you can relive this rocking album release party with full set audio below.
