An emergency bill is making its way through DC's City Council that directly threatens the vibrant music community we have come to know and love in this district. The Amplified Noise Amendment Act of 2018 would impose strict penalties for any amplified sound in a public space that can be heard 100 feet away. Clearly targeted at the busking lifestyle of many DC artists, the "emergency" legislation would impose a $300 fine and up to ten days in jail for repeat offenders. And yes, you read that right; jail time for busking could become a reality here.
We Act Radio, in coordination with various artists and activists, will hold a press conference this evening at 6:00 pm outside of the Gallery Place metro stop on 7th and H St Nw. We will be on hand to livestream that press conference via the DC Music Review Facebook page, and yes there will be street performances included. You can also click here to learn from Listen Local First DC about how you can take action to oppose this bill.
