Hayley Jane and the Primates Rocks Gypsy Sally’s as Jenny and the Gumps

Hayley Jane and the Primates Rocks Gypsy Sally’s as Jenny and the Gumps

Hayley Jane and the Primates returned to Gypsy Sally's last Friday to play a Halloween show dressed up as "Jenny and the Gumps," and rife with covers from the Forrest Gump soundtrack. They opened the night for Pink Talking Fish.  All the covers seemed handpicked for DC, with calls for revolution in Jefferson Airplane's "Volunteers," echoes of Trump in Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Fortunate Son," anti-war tones in Buffalo Springfield's "For What It's Worth," and a shout-out to our weed legal district in Bob Dylan's "Rainy Day Woman #12 and 35."

Hayley Jane brings a commanding presence to the stage with soulful vocals and a sometimes quirky, sometimes sexy, sometimes bad-ass charisma that is hard to look away from. They are one of those see-it-to-believe-it bands whose captivating style and fascinating lyrics are winning over crowds on their We're Here Now Tour.

You can watch or listen to their entire performance with matrix audio below, but the highlight of the night was probably this version of "Make it Alright" with Richard James of Pink Talking Fish on keys. This song is also on their new album, "We're Here Now" which is available on spotify, and itunes, and all that good jazz. The crew will return to DC in early December for a show at the new Pearl Street Warehouse on the Wharf.
