Summary: Summer send off
For the last official full week of summer, there's lots of music happening that I like to listen to during times of change.
Take Monday, with Marian McLaughlin playing at the Millenium Stage at The Kennedy Center. DCMR recently interviewed Marian about her new album which is worth listening to outside as summer winds down. Read more about it here.
Wednesday check out Gaelynn Lea, who won the 2016 NPR Tiny Desk Concert, and is gracing up with an intimate show at the Electric Maid.
And Thursday, an artist I adore, Buck Meek who I can't quite believe is playing right here at Songbyrd. Before I dove into his solo work, I saw a video of him playing with one of my favorite bands, Big Thief, and couldn't help but deeply appreciate, resonate with, and be inspired by the way music moves through his body.
And Friday with Paul Simon who has been a soundtrack for many of us as we go through seasons and phases and turn corners. He's playing! Here! And so is Smokey Robinson! On Saturday! A living legend who has moved me all my life! And Van Morrison who has traveled with me just about everywhere, he's playing on Sunday! It's THAT GOOD!
And Sunday, truly don't miss the 2nd Annual HERA FREE Music Festival starting at 12p and all ages for a day full of female fueled music, vendors, artists and all around awesomeness. This is the place to see and support some of the best local artists around and it's free and family friendly.
