Bad Books Delights With New Album and First Tour in Seven Years

For the first time in over seven years, indie rock band Bad Books is hitting the road to tour across the US in support of their latest album, III. A collaboration between indie singer-songwriter Kevin Devine and Manchester Orchestra’s Andy Hull and Robert McDowell, Bad Books came to fruition after the artists toured across the US and UK between 2007-2009.

Their first and self-titled studio album, released in October 2010, contained five songs written by Hull and six written by Devine, including the single “You Wouldn’t Have to Ask”. Exactly two years later, they released their second studio album, II, with songs like “The After Party” and “Forest Whitaker” which was featured on an episode of “How I Met Your Mother”.  For Hull and Devine, Bad Books is the creative outlet where they can experiment with music in a way that differs from their main projects. Now seven years since the release of II, Bad Books is ready to put more of their music into the world with their third album, III. The first single off “I Love You, I'm Sorry, Please Help Me, Thank you”, details Kevin’s experience with fatherhood after the birth of his daughter back in 2016.

When I open my perspective from my fear of the world
For the daughter I was trying to raise
With the total sum of everything asleep in my lap
I could hear I was the one in my way

// "I Love You, I'm Sorry, Please Help Me, Thank you"

Officially released on digital platforms today, III includes other singles such as the delicate “Lake House” and “UFO”. The music video for “UFO” which premiered last week is available to watch below, just in time for the tour kick off next Wednesday in Chicago. Bad Books will be stopping in the DC area on June 23rd to perform at the Milkboy Arthouse in College Park, MD.

The tour will continue along the northeast in June before heading out on the west coast leg of the tour in June. Joining Bad Books on tour will be Brother Bird, Nashville-based solo project of Caroline Swon who recently toured with Manchester Orchestra in the fall. Purchase your tickets for the College Park show below to experience an evening of  witty songwriting and gentle harmonies with Bad Books.
