Goodman’s Good Mix – Concert Picks of the Week – August 20

August 20, 2018

Week Of: August 20-26

Summary: Rockin' at LOCKN'

There's a lot to look forward to this weekend, what with Dead & Company headlining the 2018 LOCKN' Festival (hopefully as a consolation to those who were thrown a curveball last weekend).

If you're not headed to LOCKN', there is so much happening in town, including some of my personal favorite artists like Sheila E. at The Howard Theatre,  Beach House with Papercuts at The Anthem , Fishbone at The Fillmore Silver Spring, and the Cyrus Chestnut Trio at Blues Alley. (Details about these shows below!)

There's also some REALLY cool local artists that I have seen that are not to be missed, specifically: The OSYX with Crash Kitten, Candy Ambulance, and Honey at The Dew Drop Inn, Letitia VanSant plus The Young Novelists at Creative Alliance and again at Pearl Street Warehouse, Messenger Birds, FuzzQueen, Not Bored at Galaxy Hut, and Gina Sobel and Uasuf Gueye rock the Casa at Casa Phoenix.  Plus, the two shows I want to see based on their names/descriptions alone are  Strength & Power Band (Funk/Soul/R&B) at Blues Alley and  Alash, Orfeia: Tuvan throat singing at Rhizome.

There is also a plethora of FREE shows for every night of the week including (but not limited to):

More details about all of the can't-go-wrong choices for every day of the week are below, including...

  • DCMR staff picks (shows that staff are abuzz about that we may be covering/seeing), and
  • Hidden Gems (sometimes smaller, often local, always downright cool shows)

...with my personal choices in BOLD.  Now go have some fun out there!
