We are beyond sad to say goodbye to our dear friend, multi-talented musician, and above all a beautiful, humble, and kind human being Kofi Burbridge (pictured above, left with Derek Trucks, right) of Tedeschi Trucks Band. Tedeschi Trucks carried on this past weekend with a "performance for the ages" at The Warner Theatre, where they will be returning again this Friday and Saturday night in what will be an emotional celebration of this beautiful person. Week Of: February 18 — February 24, 2019
Summary: Bookends
This has been a hard week for the band and fans of Tedeschi Trucks, who played shows this past weekend on the heels of the news that beloved keyboardist/flutist Kofi Burbridge passed away on Friday. They powered on and played what was an emotional, inspired set of shows as part of their regular Warner Theatre run. They will be doing it again this upcoming weekend on both Friday and Saturday night.
Kofi was raised in DC and his fans here adored him. In some ways, we are lucky to be able to honor him with these bookend shows while we continue to process the news of his passing this week.
There are so many sublime musicians that come from this region and we are fortunate to have so many opportunities to experience such diverse, passionate, and inspired live performances. Supporting local music continues to be a wonderful way to connect with the community, this week being no exception. Many of the incredible artists listed below (personal choices in bold) consider the DMV their home.
The billboard at The Warner Theatre read over the weekend: "We will miss our brother." To Kofi, that sentiment rings true for this city. DC will miss your warmth and talent and we are so grateful for all the music and humanity you shared.
