Featured above is the DC-band Nah. a beloved, positively mesmerizing, undeniably talented local favorite who are growing tremendously on the scene. They are playing an album release show on Friday at Pearl Street Warehouse with DC-friends Skaii (hell-bent on delivering an authentic musical atmosphere) and The Duskwhales (indie-rock). Week Of: March 25 - 31, 2019
Summary: A Wammie of a Week in Washington DC
Spring has sprung and it feels so very good outside in the DMV. Some very cool highlights this week:
- There are so many LOCAL ARTISTS making music this week, including DC-based Nah. (featured above) who are releasing a full length album on March 29 and celebrating with a show on Friday at Pearl Street Warehouse. Formed in 2015 with the intention to "communicate better about mental health and healing," their songwriting is personal, melodies transfixing, musicianship heartfelt, and their ability to reach out and connect with the audience makes you feel like you're among friends.
- DIRECT CURRENT, "the Kennedy Center's two-week celebration of contemporary culture, returns for a second season. Training its focus on new works, interdisciplinary creations in which artistic worlds collide, and innovative responses to topical concerns, the 2019 spring immersion showcases some of the most provocative, original, and pioneering voices in the arts today." (See listings below.)
- We are still in the thick of the amazing Washington Women in Jazz Festival (WWJF) which runs through the end of the month (many of their shows/events/talks featured below).
- The Wammie Weekend 2019 Day Conference and 2019 Wammie Award Show is in its 31st year of recognizing DC area musicians for their artistic works.
And honestly, there is SO MUCH MORE.
Get out there and check out our blossoming scene— check out the shows listed in the links below, with personal choices in bold, along with a list of the DCMR staff top picks and cool "gems" that you don't want to miss. Shed that winter coat and GO!
