Week Of:  November 25 — December 1, 2019

Summary: Much Thanks

It's a quieter than usual week for music given the holiday, and Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrate!

There is a lot to be thankful for when it comes to the DMV music scene. This week, here are some knockout shows that will make you feel the gratitude through and through:

  • Mon: For Tool fans, their show at Capital One Arena is a no-brainer. If that's not your scene, you can be moved by the sweet sounds of the 2019 Marian Anderson Vocal Award Winner: Soloman Howard who is gracing the stage at The Kennedy Center.
  • TuesThe String Queens are all the rage and it is so well-deserved. This trio is debuting their long awaited album at two sold-out shows (8p and 10p) at Blues Alley. If you can snag a ticket for this one, definitely go for it. I have a feeling The String Queens will be playing more sold out shows in the future, so catch them now if you can.
  • Wed: In what has become an annual tradition, John Kadlecik is playing Gypsy Sally's for multiple nights this week, which feels more significant than ever given that this gem of a venue is slated to close in early January. This night's show features the John Kadlecik band with the beloved local legend Ron Holloway and is also a fundraiser for DC Central Kitchen. It will be a great night for a great cause.
  • Thurs: If you are itching to get out, there are some really nice options on Thanksgiving night. I would hit the free Thanksgiving Day Swing Dance Party with Gottaswing at 5:30 at The Reach at The Kennedy Center to work up a sweat before hitting seconds on the tofurky.
  • Fri: This is the second night of the legendary "John K" run as the John Kadlecik Band play with special guests Bumper Jacksons at Gypsy Sally's. And for those less inclined to that vibe, you might want to work it out at The Anthem where deadmau5 is playing on his CUBE V3-2019 Tour. If that's going in the wrong direction, Anita Baker will be laying down her sweet sounds at MGM National Harbor for two nights.
  • Sat: This is the final night of catching the John Kadlecik Band with special guest Bumper Jacksons (duo) at Gypsy Sally's, or check out Reggae Fest Vs Soca at The Howard Theatre, the always entertaining Keller Williams at The Hamilton with an after party featuring the Rachel Ann Morgan Band at The Hamilton Loft.
  • Sun: Last year around this time, Manchester Orchestra came to DC and played some prolific shows. This year they are playing at the wonderfully sized Fillmore in Silver Spring. If you're looking to make some music yourself and keep the warm fuzzies going, check out the  Music Improvisation with Friends Workshop at 7Drum City.
