Week Of:  October 15 - 21

Summary: Feeling it

This is going to be one of those weeks where there is no rest for the weary. And where this weekend is seriously stacked,  this week I'm going to go a little deeper on the insanely good stuff happening on the weeknights.

The highlights of the highlights below have a common thread. They make things feel deeply personal. They know how to touch a soul:

  • Monday:  Mikaela Davis w/Vanessa Peters at DC9 Nightclub because  Mikaela Davis can harp and write songs like its no big thing (and what she does is SO a big thing) and has a voice that connects like your best friend's.  And Texas-based Vanessa Peters who the Dallas Observer called, "the best kind of singer-songwriter" who hooked me in with her first verse.
  • TuesdayGarrett Gleason (Album Release) ft. FuzzQueen and Dullard at Black Cat because Garrett's playing, "is steeped in musical intuition." (Read more from the DCMR interview with Garrett Gleason here.) And the bill is plump with the impeccable DC band FuzzQueen who, "keenly aware of the inescapably political nature of their locale, they coalesce around issues of social injustice and feminine power while also reveling in a “seething tension” that serves to both mirror and confront the political climate through sonic exploration."
  • WednesdayBalkan Beltway: A Balkan Music Showcase at Bossa Bistro because this showcase will, "feature local groups in the DMV area whose music evoke the spirit of the Danube and Eastern European music traditions with Orchester PraževicaLyuti Chushki and Orfeia Vocal Ensemble. This concert is part of Multiflora Productions' annual month-long DIY global music festival "Flash of the Spirit" whose mission is to present emerging and remarkable international musicians from abroad as well as local musicians from our diverse immigrant communities to celebrate their stories, heritage, and cultures through their music."
  • ThursdayAJJ, Kimya Dawson at Black Cat because AJJ rocks and Kimya Dawson alone has touched the lives of so many people I know with her deep reaching poetry and delivery in song. I want to hear her as a hug to myself for moving so many with her sentiment alone.
