Week Of:  September 30  — October 6, 2019

Summary: Sweet Release

So much happening this week, as always, and we are lucky for it!

Our feature this week is the tremendous DC-based band The OSYX, made up of five artists who have come together, bringing their own unique strength, musicality, and passion into one pro-womxn collective whose music is singularly original, largely raucous and at times silvery. They are releasing their first full-length album on Friday night at Comet Ping Pong at a show that features the unique and incomparable Black Folks Don't Swim? and the lush sounds of The Meer. (And if you miss it, The OSYX are also playing on Saturday with Shagwüf and Sarah FM at Baltimore Free Farm.)

The band also forms the backbone of This Could Go Boom!, a non-profit that, "curates, creates, publishes, promotes, and distributes the musical works of under represented gender diverse people." They will be hosting a discussion on starting a record label and the importance of gender equality in the music industry at Gallery Experience: This Could Go Boom! on Tuesday at Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden.

And this week there are a lot "not your usual" opportunities this week to experience music, including:

...not to mention all of the tremendous shows happening (listed below), with personal choices in bold, along with a list of the DCMR staff top picks and cool "gems" that you don't want to miss.
