Grammy Award-winning blues guitarist and singer Jonny Lang made a stop at The State Theatre in Falls Church last week on Tuesday, July 17. The accomplished artist fronted his 5-piece band for a set that showcased Lang's serious guitar chops, vocals and songwriting capabilities. A veteran of the road for more than 20 years, Lang commanded the stage and sang with intensity and passion for his dedicated fans.
The crowd was treated to a clinic in electric blues guitar mastery by the Fargo, North Dakota native. 'A Quitter Never Wins' was a standout, with Lang taking several extended solos, wowing the crowd with some nasty bends and beautiful tone reminiscent of the late Gary Moore. Lang slowed it down during 'Bring Me Back Home,' from his 2017 release, Signs, displaying his penchant for gospel music before closing the song with an emotional outro solo.
Nearing the end of the show, Lang emerged solo and began his most popular tune, 'Lie to Me,' on acoustic guitar, captivating the crowd again with his passionate vocals. His band reemerged for a rocking coda that had the entire crowd on their feet in appreciation. Jonny Lang, once a child-prodigy in his teens, has evolved into a mature and well-rounded artist worthy of his many accolades.
