Kendall Street Company is no stranger to having a wild time. If you recently attended the 2023 Ramble Festival, you would have witnessed two incredible performances including their all-star stage-packing late-night performance alongside Sneezy as they created an all-night party as part of a band-blending Sneezy Street. Be prepared for an unforgettable night of music on December 22nd when The Company comes to The Atlantis, in Washington, DC.
The genre-fluid, eclectic rock ensemble has drawn varied comparisons to the dynamic jams of Umphrey's McGee and Widespread Panic, the songwriting of John Prine, the experimental psychedelia of Pink Floyd, the progressive jazz-infused rock of Frank Zappa, and the off-color humor of Ween and They Might Be Giants.
In addition to their reputation as must-see live performers, The Company's prolific immunity to writer's block has led them to release over 100 original songs between seven studio albums, two live albums, and four EPs in a period of just six years. 2023 will see the release of (at least) an additional two studio records, a handful of singles, and who knows what else! Their live shows often include unreleased and improvised tracks, as well as covers ranging from the Grateful Dead to DEVO to Alanis Morisette to Soulja Boy. With a full in-ear monitor and multitrack recording rig built, the band continues to capture the moments that mean the most to fans.
This quintet has rapidly become a must-see live act and also the pride of the DMV jam-band community, having met in Charlottesville, Virginia, while attending the University of Virginia. The band draws their name from late-night bonfires at the Kendall Street Beach on the Chesapeake Bay and the good company who fueled the flames, the jams, and the conversation that was had during these early performances. Kendall Street Company is Louis Smith (Rhythm Guitar/Lead Vox), Brian Roy (Bass), Ryan Wood (Drums), Ben Laderberg (Lead Guitar), and Jake Vanaman (Saxophone/Keys). For such a young band, their accomplishments are commendable. They have performed at festivals including Lockn', Summer Camp, High Sierra, Resonance, Floydfest, Some Kind of Jam, Rooster Walk, and Ramble Festival. The Company has also shared the stage with Goose, Umphrey's McGee, Papadosio, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, Leftover Salmon, The Infamous Stringdusters, Big Something, and Melvin Seals & JGB.
One of our favorite Kendall Street Company ear-worms - "Cars".
Kendall Street Company will be touring supporting their latest album Separation95. Before Kendall Street Company hits the stage, Frederick, Maryland's very own funktastic band, Litz will start the night off with their fierce funktronica dance party. Have you never heard of funktronica before? Get ready to witness where electronica meets funk!
We are looking forward to seeing the bands performance. Each Kendall Street Company concert is a unique experience and always included elements of crowd participation, off-the-cuff comedic bits, haphazard choreography, musical improvisation, and surprise musical guests. We hope you join us at the ever intimate 450-person Atlantis in Washington, DC, for the last performance of 2023 inside DC's latest music venue.
