In what will be undoubtably be the "Funkiest Fall" event in the DMV, Lettuce, Turkuaz, and special guests and friends will be returning to DC’s Anthem at The Wharf this Saturday night, November 3. Both bands are coming off a very strong Lockn' Festival showing this past August and left DC-area fans with
great anticipation for this show.
Lettuce is well known for their fiery and intense live shows,
die-hard fans, and a stage presence bringing a new vitality to classic funk that matches their smooth and soulful grooves with a hip-hop-inspired urgency. Their latest offering, Witches Stew [Lettuce Records], is a contemporary jazz fusion album that pays tribute to the late Miles Davis, one of Lettuce's biggest and most beloved influences. An interpretive take on the historically experimental and lauded Bitches Brew era, Witches Stew is a collection of seven songs, handpicked by the band and was recorded at the 2016 Catskill Chill in Lakewood, PA and released exactly a year ago. Lettuce will be joined by special guest Marcus King, bringing his youthful and extraordinary talent back to DC.
Turkuaz is also no stranger to the DMV, having played the gamut of venues in the area, and entertaining larger and more avid crowds with their own special expression of NY Brooklyn Funk. They bring a powerhouse, nine-member band with a visually bright Crayola stage presence mixed with energetic splashes of funk, alternative, rock, R&B, and psychedelia musical hues. Balancing male/female harmonies, strutting guitars, wild horn arrangements, and interminable grooves, this spirit takes shape in the color donned by each respective member on stage nightly via larger-than-life performances.
