Nearly two years after their last tour, Manchester Orchestra is heading back on the road this fall to promote their new album The Million Masks of God. The four piece group, composed of lead vocalist Andy Hull, guitarist Robert McDowell, bassist Andy Prince, and drummer Tim Very, last visited the DMV back in December 2019 during their “Mean Everything to Nothing” anniversary tour. This time around, we’ll be trekking up to Baltimore to catch their show at Ram’s Head Live on October 16th, 2021.
“It is our absolute pleasure to announce our return to the stage across the United States. We have missed playing together in a communal setting more than we ever thought we could.
As if getting to play shows again wasn’t exciting enough, we are thrilled to be joined by our dear brothers in Foxing on all of the dates listed. This is about to be a party…” - Manchester Orchestra
The Million Masks of God has been a long time coming, the group’s sixth studio album was released in April 2021, nearly five years after A Black Mile to the Surface. While they started writing for the album in late 2017, Hull says they "really began putting it together in the beginning of 2019".
The album’s first single, “Bed Head”, is about "two old friends existing in two separate realities", having a "conversation about the lives they lived, the consequences of life's decisions, and finding purpose in trying to be better". It was followed by two additional singles and music videos, “Keel Timing” and “Telepath”, which were released a few weeks prior to the album’s release. MMOG peaked at number 5 on the Billboard 200 chart, and based on previous performances we know these songs will sound just as great live as they do digitally.
The tour spans over the course of 5 months, starting in Dallas in early October and ending in Montreal in March 2022. They’ll be bringing along indie rock band Foxing as support.
Tickets go on sale Wednesday through the venue’s presale using the code "THESILENCE", and will be available for the general public Thursday at noon. While Manchester Orchestra has been generous with new content the past two years, ranging from live streams to Patreon exclusive demos, we are certainly looking forward to seeing them on the stage again!
