On February 26th, Marco Benevento is poised to set the DC Wharf ablaze with his infections dance party music. Benevento will perform at Union Stage, just a few doors down from Pearl Street Warehouse, where he held the album release party for his 2019 album Let It Slide. If history repeats itself, the upcoming performance at Union Stage should be another unforgettable night of infectious and joyous dancing for everyone in the audience.
For seven studio albums and countless shows worldwide, this brilliant artist has amassed a devoted fanbase. Speaking of fanbases, you may recognize Benevento holding down the keys for Joe Russo's Almost Dead, one of the countries most energetic and charismatic Grateful Dead-inspired bands.
As brilliantly as Benevento performs with JRAD, his solo work is where his pure musical genius shines. His music covers a wide swath of ground, seemingly connecting the dots in the vast space between LCD Soundsystem and Leon Russell. His songwriting is intelligent and grounded, yet simultaneously pulsating with dance rock energy. Benevento's high-energy live shows are composed of a three-piece band of Benevento on keys, Karina Rykman on bass, and drummer Dave Butler. One cannot help but dance along to this trio, especially as Rykman infectiously smiles from ear to ear and dances about the stage playing mesmerizing bass lines.
On his latest single, "At The End Or The Beginning," Benevento dives deep down a psych-funk rabbit hole. Within this rabbit hole, he captures the current Zeitgeist with lyrics like "We can walk and keep our distance, The whole world changed in an instant." This song creates a euphoric trance state where listeners can reimagine these troubled times through surrealistic optimism and the pure joy of an irresistible groove.
We invite you to listen to more of Benevento's music below. If you want our first person account of what to expect, please read our review of his 2019 Pearl Street Performance. If you want to grin ear to ear like a Cheshire Cat, we suggest you join this Mad Hatter and take a visit down the rabbit hole on February 26th at Union Stage.
And just like that, Macro Benevento has just released another new single - "Winter Rose." This song has Karina Rykman bounce-ability written all over it!
