Sam Grisman Project is heading to The Hamilton Live in downtown Washington, DC, on October 18th. Grisman and his project are no strangers to Washington, DC, and have regularly appeared at The Hamilton and venues around the DMV over the years.

Sam Grisman and his project of friends and collaborators have spent the summer barnstorming bluegrass festivals coast to coast. The DMV has been fortunate enough to play host to this group when they performed at DelFest and Hot August Music Festival.

Ultimately, there is nothing that makes me happier than playing great songs with my best friends, and my hope is to share that happiness with audiences all over!

 - Sam Grisman

If Sam Grisman's name sounds familiar, that is because his name is indelibly intertwined in music folklore and legend. Grisman is the son of David "Dawg" Grisman. The elder Grisman is a legendary mandolinist whose music combines bluegrass, folk, and jazz in a singular genre. In the 1990s, Grisman worked hand in hand with his close friend Jerry Garcia.  The Sam Grisman Project performs a wide breadth of music from David Grisman and Jerry Garcia's music catalog and original songs.

When talking about this collaboration between David and Jerry, Sam Grisman says, "The music that my father, David Grisman, and his close friend, Jerry Garcia, made in the early 90s (in the house that I grew up in) is not only some of the most timeless acoustic music ever recorded, it also triggers my oldest and fondest musical memories. What I find most inspiring about this material is the way their camaraderie and their love and joy for the music simply oozes out of each recording."

If you have seen this unique blend of musicians perform live, you can see the influence of Jerry and David move from one generation to another - and if you close your eyes tight, you can hear Jerry sing, "Inspiration, move me brightly!" When seeing the Sam Grisman Project perform live, that same camaraderie, love and joy on stage.  There are no fire-pots on stage, no lasers or lavish light shows - you only feel that love of their music and the music that inspires this quartet.  Speaking of what inspires Sam Grisman, feel his musical inspiration on his Spotify Playlist, 🐶 SGP House Music 🐶, which can also be found embedded below.

Grisman's philosophy on his project is, "Ultimately, there is nothing that makes me happier than playing great songs with my best friends, and my hope is to share that happiness with audiences all over!"

To see the Sam Grisman Project is to know happiness, and we hope you will join us at The Hamilton on October 18th.
