Scythian Is Bringing Their “Ugly Christmas Sweater Show” To Union Stage On December 10th, 2022

'Tis the season to get that Ugly Christmas Sweater out of your closet and head down to Union Stage on December 10th, 2022 for Scythian's “Ugly Christmas Sweater Show.”

Named after Ukrainian nomads, Scythian (sith-ee-yin) plays roots music from Celtic, Eastern European, and Appalachian traditions with thunderous energy, technical prowess, and storytelling songwriting, beckoning crowds into a barn-dance, rock concert experience. Scythian is made up of brothers Alexander Fedoryka (vocals, fiddle, mandolin, harmonica), Danylo Fedoryka (vocals, guitar, accordion), Ethan Dean (vocals, bass, percussion, guitar), and Johnny Rees (vocals, drums, percussion). Each band member brings their diverse influences and backgrounds to create a truly incredible sound. The classically trained Fedoryka brothers grew up on Ukrainian folk music and bluegrass. Ethan Dean was raised on the greats of 60's & 70's folk-rock, and Johnny Rees brings a Cajun backbeat to the Celtic-Americana fusion.

Nashville's Music City Roots says Scythian is "what happens when rock star charisma meets Celtic dervish fiddling." The Washington Post claims, "Scythian's enthusiasm is contagious, and shows seem to end with everyone dancing, jumping around or hoisting glasses."

Scythian formed in 2002 in Front Royal, Virginia when a bunch of college buddies played Celtic music in the streets. Since then, this group has performed relentlessly and traveled the world, growing to become a headliner on the US Celtic Festival Circuit. However, as far away from home as this band may roam from home, they are firmly grounded in the DMV. Scythian has played host to the Appaloosa Festival that they established in 2015 and has occurred every Labor Day Weekend in Front Royal, Virginia, since 2015 (aside from the pandemic-induced 'Live Music Holiday of 2020'). Speaking of the Appaloosa Festival, this year's edition marked the festival debut of Smoke & The Poet, who will support Scythian at Union Stage.

So dust off that Ugly Christmas Sweater of yours and get yourself down to Union Stage for a night of incredible and energetic music.
