Soulful Vocal Powerhouse Ali McGuirk is set to perform Jammin Java this coming Wednesday, September 28th. From the first few words out of McGuirk's soulful mouth, you will instantly recognize she is destined for greatness and is a hidden gem who is just starting out on an incredible career.

McGuirk comes to Jammin Java days after the release of her sophomore album Til It's Gone (released on September 16th, 2022). While this soulful songsmith loves to dip into a multitude of genres and sub-genres on her latest album, she never strays too far away from its rhythm and blues essence with McGuirk's potent and dynamic delivery.  When we talk of our feelings about McGuirk's voice and the great career she has in front of her, we defer to Under The Radar's impressions of the first song on Til It's Gone as to how we and others feel about the first song - "X Boyfriends."

“X Boyfriends” is a gorgeously constructed effort, recalling strains of vintage soul and R&B with a full and fervent sound. McGuirk’s vocals are the spotlit focal point, bolstered by swelling harmonies, bursts of smoky guitar, soulful organ melodies, and luxuriant grooves. The resultant track is a spellbinding work of timeless soul beauty, offering a tasteful fusion of classic stylings with a bright modern sheen.

McGuirk's voice and vocal style transcends decades of Soul and R&B, and although she draws from the influences of these genres, she manages to write new music with modern themes and events. When speaking of the songs in her latest album McGuirks talks about the development of the easy-grooving "All Back." "When this hook first came to mind for me, the theme was really open and I wasn't sure what the song would be about. As it developed, it became clear to me that I was writing a song for the end of the pandemic," remembers McGuirk. Complemented by sultry background vocals and tasty Hammond organ interjections (that's Larry Goldings on the B3!), "All Back" feels all at once vintage and current. As she sings an Americana and folk-influenced "Empty Vase," her soulful honey-dripped voice pierces through the music. As one listens to "Let It Be You," you can only envision one day Susan Tedeschi, also hailing from Boston, Massachusetts, stepping in stage-left to sing alongside McGuirk.

Til It's Gone, alongside McGuirk's 2017 debut album, Slow Burn, are worth listening to several times as her soulful sound layers up upon your ears.  Perhaps these albums are worth a listen to with a glass of red wine on the ever cooler autumn nights.

Better yet, you should find your way to Vienna, Virginia, to see McGuirk perform live at Jammin Java.
