Hailing from Bristol, England, the talented vocalist captivated a lively audience with her soulful voice, intriguing songs and charming personality.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"\" data-id=\"108862\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" title=\"Yola\" src=\"\/\/www.dcmusicreview.com\/staging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/DSC_0074.jpg\" scale=\"0\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Yola<\/p>\n<p>Yola&#8217;s spirits were high, perhaps due to a sold-out room in DC on her first headlining North American tour. She was recently nominated for an impressive four Grammy awards including Best New Artist, Best Americana Album (<em>Walk Through Fire<\/em>), Best Americana Roots Performance and Best Americana Roots Song (&#8220;Faraway Look&#8221;).&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Many of the songs she sang on Friday were from the aforementioned <em>Walk Through Fire<\/em> including the aeonymous track, &#8220;Shady Grove,&#8221; &#8220;Rock Me Gently&#8221; and &#8220;I Don&#8217;t Wanna Lie,&#8221; among others. Yola saved the best for last when she performed the <strong>Elton John<\/strong> classic, &#8220;Goodbye Yellow Brick Road&#8221; in stunning fashion.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Following a brief encore break, she sang more of her favorite songs including a wonderful &#8220;mashup&#8221; of <strong>Joni Mitchell&#8217;s<\/strong> &#8220;Big Yellow Taxi&#8221; before segueing into &#8220;The Letter&#8221; written by <strong>Wayne Carson,<\/strong>&nbsp;first recorded by <strong>The Box Tops&nbsp;<\/strong>and made popular by the late <strong>Joe Cocker<\/strong>.
