The Constitution of the United States begins with “We The People<\/em>.” The “We” is each of us, and we the people have the right to have our voices heard, our votes cast, and our laws and leaders decided upon.  In order to form that more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, and promote the general welfare, our voices must be heard – all<\/strong> of our voices, each and every<\/strong> citizen!<\/p>\n

If we were to sum up this sentiment musically, perhaps there is no better song than the timeless anthem “This Land Is Your Land” by Woody Guthrie<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

To that end, the nonprofit organization, JusticeAid<\/strong><\/a>, announced Voices To Protect The Vote<\/strong>, an at-home benefit concert in support of its 2020 beneficiary, Election Protection\/888-OUR-VOTE<\/strong><\/a>. The virtual event, taking place on May 18th, 2020 <\/strong>at 7PM ET\/4PM PT <\/strong>on JusticeAid’s YouTube<\/a> <\/strong>and hosted by NYC’s WFUV Program Director Rita Houston.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This event will shine a light on issues of voter suppression and serve as a gift of uplifting music during these difficult times. Performing artists Paula Cole, David Shaw <\/strong>and Zack Feinberg<\/strong> of The Revivalists, David Hidalgo <\/strong>of Los Lobos, Leyla McCalla, Kandace Springs, <\/strong>and Paine the Poet<\/strong> will headline the event.<\/p>\n

Each year JusticeAid organizes concerts and public forums to educate the public about key civil rights challenges, while raising vital funds to support grassroots organizations addressing these issues. <\/p>\n

This year’s focus is on voter engagement and voter suppression.<\/strong><\/p>\n

We’re motivated to get the necessary resources to individuals nationwide, including local and state officials, so they can adapt to the new changes brought on by COVID-19. The JusticeAid virtual concert, Voices To Protect The Vote, shares inspiring music and poetry to move us all to fight voter suppression. JusticeAid is raising money so that every person who wants to vote will be able to-easily and safely.”<\/p>\n

While Voices To Protect The Vote <\/strong>is a free event, the JusticeAid Board will match every dollar contributed up to $100,000 to support grassroots efforts to remove barriers to voting and ensure safe and fair access to the voting process.<\/p>\n
