Flyn’ High – Available February 25 <\/p>\n

On February 25th, 2022, <\/span>The Wooks<\/span><\/strong> release their third album – <\/span>Flyn’ High, and i<\/span><\/em>n support of this new album, band sets out on a 27 stop tour.  Lucky for residents of the DMV, six performances take place in the DMV.  Bluegrass and Americana fans of DC are even luckier as The Wooks have decided to have an album release party on Thursday, March 17th, at <\/span>Pearl Street Warehouse<\/span><\/strong>. <\/span><\/p>\n

\"The<\/span><\/p>\n

When listening to Flyn’ High<\/em>‘s title track, we hear the story of Jim Bob Meade<\/strong>, a switchman for the C&O train. So we suppose there is no better way to celebrate this character than to have The Wooks pull into Pearl Street Warehouse and celebrate an album release party just a few miles away from where the C&O train used to pull into Union Station.<\/p>\n

Rather than repeating the formal studio experiences for past albums, The Wooks\u2014CJ Cain<\/strong> on guitar and vocals, Harry Clark<\/strong> on mandolin and vocals, George Guthrie <\/strong>on banjo and vocals, and Allen Cooke <\/strong>on Dobro\u2014recorded Flyin’ High<\/em> over two sessions in Nashville in the home studio of bluegrass guitarist Jake Stargel<\/strong>. Cain recalls. “This album has a lot of solos and vocals and all kinds of stuff that’s just the raw take. There’s no click track. We were trying to get a sound like Bela Fleck’s<\/strong> Drive<\/em> album or Tony Rice’s<\/strong> work at Arch Studios with Bill Wolf<\/strong>. That live feeling. So much of bluegrass these days is almost autotuned and fixed to the point of perfection. We were trying to run away from that quickly as possible.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Cooke speaks for the band when he says he’s eager for fans to discover these new songs\u2014on the album as well as the stage. “This band is definitely not a band that is set on keeping things to the way they sounded on the record,” he says. “We’re all about keeping these songs fresh and new-sounding as shows go on.<\/span><\/p>\n

Inspired by the traditional and the unconventional, The Wooks have established a distinctive sound through original songwriting, exceptional musicianship, and outside influences ranging from jam bands to Southern rock. All four members of The Wooks have forged a common bond that honors their individuality and allows for  innovation. Fans will tell this from listening to their music catalog and by especially seeing them perform live.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Wooks’ Spring 2022 Tour kicks off on February 24th in Louisville, KY, and by the time they hit the stage on March 17th for the album release party, we have no doubt that these new songs will blossom, mature, and enthrall fans.<\/span><\/p>\n
