The legend <strong>Buddy Guy<\/strong> played to a capacity crowd in the <strong>Main Theatre<\/strong> at the relatively new <strong>Capital One Hall<\/strong> in Tysons, VA on Saturday, April 2. The 85 year-old blues icon sweetened the pot by tasking the (now) Grammy-Award-Winning &nbsp;<strong>Christone &#8220;Kingfish&#8221; Ingram<\/strong>, with opening the show. The result was an explosive night of electric blues, storytelling and scintillating guitar playing.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" data-id=\"118928\" width=\"299\" data-init-width=\"706\" height=\"434\" data-init-height=\"1024\" title=\"Christone &quot;Kingfish&quot; Ingram\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/dcmusicreview.com\/staging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/850_0075-Edit-2-Edit.jpg\" data-width=\"299\" data-height=\"434\" style=\"\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Christone &#8220;Kingfish&#8221; Ingram<\/p>\n<p>Kingfish hails from Mississippi and possesses immeasurable talent and soul. The 23-year-old blues guitar phenom opened the show with a fiery set that showcased both his guitar and singing prowess. Ingram played music from his 2021 release, &#8220;662,&#8221; an homage to his hometown of Clarksdale, MS. &nbsp;The highly-acclaimed record garnered even more recognition the following night, taking home <strong>Grammy<\/strong> honors for <strong>Best Contemporary Blues Album of the Year<\/strong>. The new modern blues superstar wowed an attentive crowd with this soulful guitar playing and bellowing vocals. The heir-apparent brought the heat throughout his seemingly all-too-short set, warming the stage for the incomparable Buddy Guy.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Buddy Guy is an American treasure and all-time blues great. To see him in 2022 is nothing short of amazing. Buddy appeared jubilant has he ripped piercing notes on his trusted Stratocaster, telling stories from the past and giving lessons to the kids in the audience \u2013 albeit with an abundance of adult language. The crowd listened and laughed along to Guy&#8217;s anecdotes with pure elation. In addition to the tales, Buddy proved that he still has precious guitar chops and always will. Always a man of the people, Buddy waltzed through the orchestra section, playing the hell out of his wireless guitar rig \u2013 at one point sitting in an open aisle seat for a quick breather.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" data-id=\"118931\" width=\"245\" data-init-width=\"1024\" height=\"245\" data-init-height=\"1022\" title=\"Buddy Guy\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/dcmusicreview.com\/staging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/850_1565-Edit-2.jpg\" data-width=\"245\" data-height=\"245\" style=\"\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"\">Buddy Guy<\/p>\n<p>Nearing the end of the set, Buddy (re)introduced Kingfish to the delight of the crowd. Ingram came out swimming with some stellar blues guitar work as his mentor stopped for a sip of tea. The grateful Guy thanked his dedicated fans and began to toss guitar picks to the crowd as Kingfish and <strong>Ric Jaz <\/strong>(guitar) delightfully traded some sweet licks. The crowd roared in appreciation as the legend waved goodbye and walked off stage while the band closed out the show. It was an unforgettable night of blues in a beautiful room with an all-timer and the next blues king.
