With a galloping guitar and a concrete backbeat on the snare drum, \u201cYou and (Everybody Else)\u201d\u2014the first offering from Peter Mulvey<\/strong> & SistaStrings<\/strong>\u2019 upcoming album, Love Is The Only Thing<\/em>\u2014takes no time getting off to the races. <\/p>\n

“John Sieger <\/strong>and I sat down to bust this one out quickly,\u201d remembers Mulvey. \u201cThe song announced itself as lean and loping: very few words, all energy, a two-beat measure.\u201d Easing into the second verse, the cello and violin from SistaStrings\u2019 Monique Ross <\/strong>and Chauntee Ross<\/strong> sneak in, adding another meaningful texture to the sparse but purposeful tune. Throughout, the mood is jovial, reflected in Mulvey\u2019s delivery of the song\u2019s lyrics.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were pleased to get both a Tibetan Buddhism reference\u2014\u2018hungry ghosts\u2019\u2014and a Black Sabbath-<\/strong>style rhyme\u2014where you rhyme a word with…itself!\u2014into the third verse,\u201d says Mulvey, proudly. SistaStrings delivered the song\u2019s crowning theme with post-refrain, descending string line that would be equally at home on a later Led Zeppelin a<\/strong>lbum as it would in America\u2019s bluegrass songbook. \u201cIt makes the whole song,\u201d Mulvey decrees. <\/p>\n
