<\/span>At every music festival, there is a breakthrough artist that we never knew about, but people fall in love with – a shiny hidden gem that blows people away. Eastern Tennessee-based songwriter <\/span>Adeem the Artist<\/strong> <\/span>did just that a few weeks ago at <\/span>AmericanaFest 2022<\/strong>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Seamlessly picking up where their acclaimed 2021 <\/span>album Cast-Iron<\/span><\/em> Pansexual left off\u2014an album praised by<\/span> Rolling Stone <\/span><\/strong>and <\/span>American Songwriter<\/span><\/strong> for its examination of faith, sexual identity, and self-acceptance\u2014Adeem\u2019s latest output \u201cGoing To Hell\u201d finds the Artist balancing their Appalachian music influences and poetic flair with a healthy dose of comedic instinct. <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span>Recently hailed by <\/span>The Boot<\/span><\/strong><\/a> for their \u201cunwavering charm and charisma\u201d and \u201ccomedic country gold,\u201d <\/span>Rolling Stone<\/strong><\/span><\/a> named their AmericanaFest2022 performance one of the best shows at the festival.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHumor has always been a part of my life,\u201d explains Adeem, citing comedians Andy Kaufman<\/strong> and Sarah Silverman<\/strong> as artistic influences in addition to musicians like John Prine<\/strong> and Blind Boy Fuller<\/strong>. Growing up, first in North Carolina and later in Syracuse, New York, Adeem quickly realized that with the right delivery, dark jokes could offer a socially acceptable way to open up about the tough stuff. \u201c  My parents are both from a lot of generational trauma, and I was born right at the heart of it,\u201d they say, \u201cHumor is just how we survived.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

Adeem the Artist<\/span> <\/span><\/strong>will perform in Annapolis at <\/span>Rams Head On Stage<\/span><\/strong> on <\/span>October 18<\/span><\/strong>  and will be supporting <\/span>Crystal Bowersox<\/span><\/strong>. You may recognize Bowersox as the runner-up to American Idol Season 9. Although her spectacular broadcast performances of 2010 left us spellbound, Bowersox should not be defined by this part of her career. In the twelve years since American Idol, Bowersox has gone on to release four albums, including <\/span>HitchHiker, <\/span><\/em><\/strong>which was released earlier this year<\/span>.<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n
