For those that have not heard Mipso before, their &nbsp;music is a beautiful combination of traditional string based music with close harmony and a variety of modern influences.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The band formed in 2012 as an excuse to play music between classes in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. <strong>Joseph Terrell<\/strong> came from a family of banjo-playing uncles and a guitarist grandma, and he\u2019d gotten curious again about the string band music he\u2019d heard as a kid. <strong>Jacob Sharp<\/strong> was raised on equal parts <strong>Doc Watson<\/strong> and <strong>Avett Brothers<\/strong> in the mountains of North Carolina and he was hunting for a chance to sing some harmonies. <strong>Wood Robinson<\/strong> added a <strong>Charlie Haden<\/strong>-esque interest in bridging jazz and grass sensibilities on the double bass, and <strong>Libby Rodenbough<\/strong> soon joined on fiddle, unsatisfied by her classical violin training but drawn like a moth toward the glow of old, weird Americana.<\/p>\n<p><span><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Mipso - Book Of Fools\" data-id=\"127272\" width=\"228\" data-init-width=\"600\" height=\"228\" data-init-height=\"600\" title=\"Mipso - Book Of Fools\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/dcmusicreview.com\/staging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Mipso_Book-of-Fools_Cover-e1699541700168.jpeg\" data-width=\"228\" data-height=\"228\" style=\"aspect-ratio: auto 600 \/ 600;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Post-pandemic Mipso is starting fresh again with their sixth album,&nbsp;<em>Book of Fools<\/em>, which was released on August 25th, 2023. &nbsp;<em><\/em>The songs might be their best yet: \u201cCarolina Rolling By\u201d shows Terrell at his most relaxed and confident while the band turns a story of a pill-popping truck driver into a meditative cosmic country-tinged head bopper. \u201cThe Numbers\u201d flirts with 60s surf rock while Rodenbough winks and wags a finger at our market-obsessed culture, and \u201cBroken Heart\/Open Heart\u201d features Sharp at his most heart-wrenching and earnest. Other standouts \u201cEast\u201d and \u201cRadio Hell\u201d will infect you with earworms made of guitar riffs, Robinson\u2019s pretzel-twisted upright bass lines, and saturated \u201cooohs\u201d drifting in as if on AM radio waves.<\/p>\n<p><span><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Mipso - Book Of Fools\" data-id=\"127272\" width=\"570\" data-init-width=\"600\" height=\"570\" data-init-height=\"600\" title=\"Mipso - Book Of Fools\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/dcmusicreview.com\/staging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Mipso_Book-of-Fools_Cover-e1699541700168.jpeg\" data-width=\"570\" data-height=\"570\" style=\"aspect-ratio: auto 600 \/ 600;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Rock, country, indie-Americana: genre descriptors and labels may be applied to Mispo&#8217;s latest album but they miss the point, which is that these four people and only these four people could\u2019ve made this album.
