To borrow from \u201cLucy in the sky with diamonds\u201d, p<\/em>icture yourself in a venue near a river, with tangerine trees and reggae vibes. Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly, a Beatles band with dub in their eyes<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Yellow Dubmarine<\/strong> coversthe songs of thetimeless band, The Beatles<\/strong>, but with their own unique dub (reggae) flair and brass components. <\/p>\n

On December 22, Yellow Dubmarine performed at The Hamilton for their 5th <\/sup>annual holiday performance.<\/p>\n

The band, based out of Washington, DC is composed of eight talented musicians: Jonathan Sloane <\/strong>(guitar, vocals), Aaron Glaser <\/strong>(bass, vocals), Robbie Cooper <\/strong>(drums, vocals), Luke Schuster <\/strong>(keys, vocals), Jason Budman<\/strong><\/span> <\/strong>(percussion), Mario D’Ambrosio <\/strong>(saxophone), John Morgan<\/strong> (trombone), and <\/span>Daniel Davis <\/strong>(trumpet).<\/span><\/p>\n

Throughout the show, projected light images paid tribute to the \u201cFab Four\u201d, ranging from classic Beatle photos and silhouettes, to in honor of the holiday season, reindeer pulling the iconic yellow submarine, in lieu of a sleigh. Further adding to the TheBeatles themewas bassist Aaron Glaser, who performed on a Hofner \u2018Violin\u2019 bass, the bassfor which Paul McCartney has become synonymous with.<\/p>\n

Yellow Dubmarine performed a wide breadth of the Beatles catalogue,including A Hard Day\u2019s Night <\/em>and<\/em>Let It Be<\/em>. The evening was filled many classic sing-alongs in which the audience gleefullyparticipated.During the particular sing-alongof\u201cOb-La-Di Ob-La-Da\u201d the band further stoked the crowd by yelling \u201cI can\u2019t hear you all!\u201d, that led the audience to sing even louder to this timeless song.<\/p>\n

\u201cDear Prudence\u201d, a heartfelt and uplifting classic kept that same feeling and sentiment played in the dub reggae style. This performance included a John Lennon <\/strong>song that was newly composed by Yellow Dubmarine, \u201cHappy Xmas (War Is Over)\u201d just in time for this Holiday show.<\/p>\n

One of the highlights of the show was \u201cTomorrow Never Knows\u201d. Upon completion of the original psychedelic song, the band launched into a full jam session, highlighting the musicians’ musical talents. <\/p>\n

The main performance ended with an explosive \u201cHey Jude\u201d, complete with an extended sing-along. The band re-emerged for an encore, to perform \u201cI Want You (She’s So Heavy)\u201d This one song was not enough to satisfy the crowd, whocalled foradditional songs.The request for\u201cOctopus\u2019s Garden\u201d from someone in the crowd must have struck a chordwith the band (no pun intended), who went on to perform this song as well. <\/p>\n

The evening’s show was truly an uplifting musical experience that left those in attendance in good spirits leading into the Christmas holiday weekend. As people walked out of the venue, they carried the concert with them and could hear themsinging many Beatles songs into the night.<\/p>\n

DC Music Review looks forward to seeing Yellow Dubmarine at their 6th <\/sup>annual holiday performance at The Hamilton Live, if not sooner.<\/p>\n
