Occasionally, one gets the pleasure of witnessing \u201cthe next big thing\u201d begin to take hold\u2014Wednesday was that rare night for the district. A chattery crowd filled the 9:30 Club<\/strong>, with beers and cocktails glued to just about every hand.<\/p>\n

\"Gongol<\/span><\/p>\n

Marian Hill<\/strong>, consisting of Samantha Gongol<\/strong> (vocals), Jeremy Lloyd<\/strong> (production), and for live sets, Steve Davit<\/strong> (saxophone, tuba, and guitar), ran on stage in matching black outfits, topped off with spotless white sneakers.<\/p>\n

Wasting no time, the three launched into the opening number, with Gongol commanding the stage with her sharp dance moves. Twisting and turning to the beat of the music, Marian Hill clearly understands the power of performance. Not a moment of their set is unchoreographed, perhaps giving insight as to why the duo pulled their name from two characters in the musical, The Music Man.<\/em><\/p>\n

Introducing the first song ever written by the duo, \u201cWhisky\u201d, Lloyd highlighted his masterful production, layering intricate drums, deep synths, and stuttering vocals, crafting an eerie background to accompany Gongol\u2019s lead vocals.  <\/p>\n

Transitioning into the buttery tunes of \u201cAll Night Long\u201d off of the duos May 11 release, Unusual<\/em>, Gongol glimpsed over at Davit, and playfully instructed, \u201dSteve\u201d.<\/p>\n

The crowd erupted in a roar of support as Davit launched into an intricate saxophone solo. Gongol teased Davit with her sensual dancing, and Davit returned the favor. The two played cat and mouse, traveling across the stage as a pair, with Davit following Gongol\u2019s lead. Sharply turning away as soon as Gongol began to welcome his advances, it was Gongol\u2019s turn to chase.<\/p>\n

The crowd is captivated by the show, and not a single body stood still within the room.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s my wife up there\u201d boldly stated a male member of the crowd.<\/p>\n

\u201cSame,\u201d retorted the female to his left.<\/p>\n

Gongol isn\u2019t the only one who\u2019s pulling at DC\u2019s heartstrings. Grinning, she swiftly leaves the stage to make room for Davit\u2019s dance routine and trumpet solo. The room exploded with cheers as Davit hammed it up, and transitioned into a booming chant of \u201cSteeeeeeve\u201d as the song faded into silence.<\/p>\n

Gongol returning to the stage, the duo played \u201cSubtle Thing\u201d, a brand new track. Travelling from the mic stand over to Lloyd, Gongol showcased her dancing prowess even further.<\/p>\n

Leaving the stage after their most popular song, \u201cDown\u201d, the three left the crowd wanting more. Begging for an encore, the booming chant for Steve returns. Quite hilariously, Davit did not appear back on stage until the middle of \u201cTalk To Me\u201d, where his incredible saxophone skills shone.  <\/p>\n

Bowing, the final act came to a close and the crowd\u2019s deafening cheers filled the room. Marian Hill had successfully made an average hump day an unforgettable night for their fans. With their charismatic energy and raw talent, it is only a matter of time before they become a household name.<\/p>\n
