Week Of:<\/span><\/strong>  September 10 – 16, 2018<\/h3>\n

Summary: <\/span> Summer send off<\/strong><\/h4>\n

For the last official full week of summer, there’s lots of music happening that I like to listen to during times of change<\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Take Monday, with Marian McLaughlin<\/a> <\/strong>playing at the Millenium Stage at The Kennedy Center.  DCMR recently interviewed<\/a> Marian about her new album which is worth listening to outside as summer winds down. Read more about it here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Wednesday check out Gaelynn Lea<\/a><\/strong>, <\/strong>who won the 2016 NPR Tiny Desk Concert<\/a>, and is gracing up with an intimate show at the Electric Maid. <\/p>\n

And Thursday, an artist I adore, Buck Meek<\/strong><\/a> who I can’t quite believe is playing right here at Songbyrd. Before I dove into his solo work, I saw a video<\/a> of him playing with one of my favorite bands, Big Thief<\/strong><\/a>, and couldn’t help but deeply appreciate, resonate with, and be inspired by the way music moves through his body. <\/p>\n

And Friday with Paul Simon<\/strong><\/a> <\/strong>who has been a soundtrack for many of us as we go through seasons and phases and turn corners. He’s playing! Here! And so is Smokey Robinson<\/a><\/strong>! On Saturday! A living legend who has moved me all my life! And Van Morrison<\/a> <\/strong>who has traveled with me just about everywhere, he’s playing <\/strong>on Sunday!  It’s THAT GOOD!<\/p>\n

And Sunday, truly don’t miss the 2nd Annual HERA FREE Music Festival<\/a> starting at 12p and all ages <\/strong>for a day full of female fueled music<\/span><\/strong>, vendors, artists and all around awesomeness. This is the place to see and support some of the best local artists around and it’s free and family friendly. <\/p>\n

So yes, lots of great things to see and do this week, with my personal choices in bold<\/strong> below, along with a list of the DCMR staff top picks<\/span><\/strong><\/u> and amazing  “gems<\/span><\/strong><\/u>” like: Jpegmafia with Joy Again<\/strong><\/a> <\/strong>and The Chuck Brown Band<\/strong><\/a> <\/strong>and The Brian McKnight 4<\/a><\/strong> <\/strong>and Jasmine Gillison<\/a><\/strong> <\/strong>and <\/strong>Allthebestkids <\/strong><\/a> <\/strong>and First Aid Kit with Julia Jacklin<\/strong><\/a> t<\/strong>hat will make this week shine even brighter. <\/p>\n
