However, despite the substitution with a smaller model and it being their first night with a freshly minted bass player, Gibson and her kind and talented band provided a cozy night with nostalgic music for longing lovers and lonely hearts.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"width: 100%;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Laura Gibson\" width=\"832\" height=\"1024\" title=\"Laura Gibson\" data-id=\"66668\" src=\"\/\/www.dcmusicreview.com\/staging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/JAH_4504.jpg\" scale=\"0\" style=\"width: 100%; user-select: none;\"><\/span><span style=\"width: 100%;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Laura Gibson\" width=\"832\" height=\"1024\" title=\"Laura Gibson\" data-id=\"66668\" src=\"\/\/www.dcmusicreview.com\/staging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/JAH_4504.jpg\" scale=\"0\" style=\"width: 100%; user-select: none;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>While promoting her latest album, <a href=\"https:\/\/dcmusicreview.com\/staging\/laura-gibson-playing-dc9-after-recent-release-of-latest-and-best-album\/\" style=\"user-select: none;\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Goners<\/em><\/a><em>,<\/em>&nbsp;in Europe, she quickly realized that there was no translation for the slang word \u201cgoners.\u201d Accepting the fact that the heavily accented were destined to call her album \u201cGoh-ners,\u201d Gibson learned that the word literally translated to \u2018the condemned\u201d, joking that it was a, \u201cbleak translation for a bleak album.\u201d While perhaps bleak,&nbsp;<em>Goners<\/em>, among her other notable discography, is rich and well-crafted, with lyrics to make one think and reflect.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Introducing \u201cSlow Joke Grin\u201d as a \u201cwant song,\u201d Gibson added that it\u2019s typically \u201cradical\u201d for a woman to come outright and say \u201cI want you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While that\u2019s never been a problem for me personally, she accurately captures the exact weight you feel in your heart after being upfront with someone and it not necessarily going the way you intended:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">&#8220;But I was never oneTo second guess and draw a lineBetween love and fear of loneliness<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>[\u2026]<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>But I&#8217;ll keep on shouting from the fire escapeI&#8217;ll keep shouting from a wifeAnd window from a bridgeFrom a field, from a ferry in the harborFrom the sole dark wound of a mountain<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>I want you, I want youI want you, I want you<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">&nbsp;&#8220;<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">&nbsp;\/\/&nbsp;<\/span><strong><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\"> <\/span><span style=\"color: rgb(255, 51, 51);\">&#8220;Slow Joke Grin&#8221;&nbsp;<\/span><\/strong> from <em>Goners<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Gibson\u2019s most recent album comes in harmony with her latest degree \u2014 an MFA in writing \u2014and her lyrics truly reflect the growth she\u2019s seen in school. She somehow so accurately conveys the human experience for the heavy, hard, but beautiful and fickle thing it is. Although she described art as an indulgence, it is a necessary one, a \u201cworthwhile endeavor\u201d that brings comfort and solace to many.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"width: 100%;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Laura Gibson\" width=\"608\" height=\"789\" title=\"Laura Gibson\" data-id=\"66670\" src=\"\/\/www.dcmusicreview.com\/staging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/JAH_4714-e1543851594639.jpg\" scale=\"0\" style=\"width: 100%; -webkit-user-select: none;\"><\/span><span style=\"width: 100%;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Laura Gibson\" width=\"608\" height=\"789\" title=\"Laura Gibson\" data-id=\"66670\" src=\"\/\/www.dcmusicreview.com\/staging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/JAH_4714-e1543851594639.jpg\" scale=\"0\" style=\"width: 100%; -webkit-user-select: none;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Despite her exhaustion and heavy-handed jet lag that made her set the \u201cloopiest [she\u2019s] ever played,\u201d Gibson was humble and radiant.<\/p>\n<p>Before launching into a short encore, Gibson gestured to the green room, located past the packed crowd in the way back of the venue.
