The Afghan Whigs are set to perform at the 9:30 Club in Washington DC on September 14th, 2022. This legendary band from Cincinnati, Ohio, is no stranger to the 9:30 Club, having performed at our beloved venue nine times before. The band's long history with the venue spans several decades. While they last performed at the 9:30 Club on September 9th, 2017, the first time they performed was at the original location at 930 F Street NW all the way back on August 13th, 1992.
It has been five years since their last appearance at the 9:30 Club, and the Whigs come to Washington, DC, supporting their latest and ninth studio album, How Do You Burn? This album is their first new music since 2017's In Spades and their first new music since the passing of Whigs guitarist Dave Rosser.
Since their inception in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1986, The Afghan Whigs have never played by the rules of convention. Against the plaid-and-grunge-shaded backdrop of the early-to-mid-'90s, the Whigs stood apart from their contemporaries for their love of R&B, soul, and hard-raging rock. All these years later, they still sound as good as ever with Greg Dulli's infatigable voice, as he dives into R&B influences shimmering in Hammond B-3 organ, never letting the dark and gritty side go, and going full stadium-ready anthems.
Have you listened to the released tracks off of How Do You Burn? Listen to that opening car-chase of "I'll Make You See God", on-your-knees redemptive soul-penetrating "Please, Baby Please", stadium-ready echo epic "A Line Of Shots", tortured lovers on "Domino + Jimmy", to an epic finale of "In Flames." This is an album we really cannot wait to listen to when the full album is released on September 9th.
We are really looking forward to seeing The Afgan Whigs perform to a small audience of 1,200 fans at the 9:30 Club on September 14th only a few days after their latest album release.
