Fresh into 2022 and The Wood Brothers have announced their 2022 touring plans. This extensive 2022 calendar sees them touring well into April. Lucky for residents of the DMV, The Wood Brothers bring their Americana music to the 9:30 Club on January 26th.

The Wood Brothers - Kingdom In My Mind

Kingdom In My Mind, released January 24, 2020.

This appearance will be an excellent opportunity to hear songs from their latest album, Kingdom In My Mind, performed live. “Everyone has these little kingdoms in their minds,” says Chris Wood, “and the songs on this album all explore the ways we find peace in them. They look at how we deal with our dreams and our regrets and our fears and our loves. They look at the stories we tell ourselves and the ways we balance the darkness and the light.”

The Wood Brothers - Kingdom In My Mind

Kingdom In My Mind, The Wood Brother's 7th studio album, was released January 24, 2020.

That balance of darkness and light is at the heart of Kingdom In My Mind, and their most spontaneous and experimental collection yet. The songs contained on this album are a reckoning with circumstance, mortality, and human nature, one that finds strength in accepting what lies beyond our control. Thoughtfully honing in on the bittersweet beauty that underlies our doubt and pain, the songs grapple with the power of our external surroundings to shape our internal worlds (and vice versa) through vivid character studies and unflinching self-examination. The lyrics dig deep here and may resonate with fans more than their previous songs.

The Wood Brothers didn’t know they were making a record. Looking back, they’re grateful for that. “If we had known, we probably would have been too self-conscious to play what we played,” reflects bassist/vocalist Chris Wood. “At the time, we just thought we were jamming to break in our new studio, so we felt free to explore all these different ways of performing together without worrying about form or structure. It was liberating.”  Recorded live to tape, those freewheeling, improvised sessions became a vast pool of source material from which The Wood Brothers would go on to draw their most spontaneous and experimental collection yet.

The only thing better than having an album recorded live to tape is to have these songs performed live in front of an audience. DC Music Review is excited to see  The Wood Brothers, supported by Steve Poltz, performing live again inside the 9:30 Club.
