Wammies DC Announce Finalists

Wammies DC Announce Finalists

Jason Herman
March 11, 2019

Late last week many members of Washington DC's music community woke up to delightful news - they had been nominated for a Wammie award.  A Wammie is the beloved nickame for the Washington Area Music Award. DC may be the birthplace of Go-Go, but it also has a thriving music community filled with artists covering the entire musical landscape. Washington Area musicians will be honored and celebrated in the following categories: Bluegrass, Blues, Childrens Music, Country / Americana, Electronic / Techno, Folk, Fun, GoGo, Gostpel, Hard Rock, Hip Hop, Jazz, Latin, Pop, Punk, R&B, Rap, Reggae, Rock, Soul, and World Music.

“We are excited to announce this substantial list of talented artists in the Washington region. It’s by far one of the most diverse nominee cohorts we’ve seen across categories, and we can’t wait to announce the winners over the first ever Wammie Weekend.”

// Jeffery Tribble, Jr.  - Executive Director, The MusicianShip

As an active member in the DMV, DC Music Review, is truly delighted to help celebrate the achievements of each an every artist in the region as they practice, explore, study, and expand their craft. We celebrate the achievements of both emerging and established artists as they take to the stage and recording studios throughout the region.

For a full list of finalists please see the Wammie's finalists list (https://www.wammiesdc.org/wammieweekend/finalists/) . With 150 nominees in 62 categories it would be too long a list to include here, but we would like to tip our hats to every artist that is a part of the DC music scene, whether they were nominated for an award or not. The amount of talent that is listed shows just how vibrant and thriving the area's music community is and the depth and breadth of music and music genres coming out of the area.

This year, the Wammies will take place on March 30 & 31 in Washington DC and includes day conference held on Saturday in addition to the award ceremony held on Sunday.  We encourage you to attend the Wammie Day Conference brought to you by The MusicainShip. This day conference provides attendees the opportunity to network, learn, and listen to 40+ conference speakers who will provide extensive and invaluable knowledge and insight on all aspects of the muisc industry.  See the full list of Day Conference Speakers here.
